The Mohammed Bin Rashid Technology Park (MBRTP)
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Technology Park (MBRTP) is a forward-thinking free zone that aims to entice cutting-edge scientists and businesspeople from a wide range of industries, including but not limited to the following: power, energy, environment, desalination, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals. Located along Sheikh Zayed Road and close to Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafz), the park’s first phase covers an area of 3 square kilometers. The Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation will be in charge, and their team of experts and professionals will be in charge of it.
MBRTP has a broad scope, with the intention of attracting not just traditional manufacturers and industrialists, but also start-up accelerators, consultants, investors, and tech service providers. The park is ideally suited to the growth of a wide range of service industries, including design, consulting, prototype production, industry, and spin-offs for incubated discoveries.
Mohammed Bin Rashid Technology Park aims to boost economic growth and improve Dubai’s competitive status in the region by encouraging the development of “clusters” of the industrially-based knowledge economy in key areas. Research and development companies, product development companies, laboratories, incubators, training institutes, technology transfer agencies, and technology accelerators will all be represented in these clusters.
The “demand-driven” industrial innovations are at the heart of the park’s aim. The growing need for desalination methods in the Gulf region is one convincing illustration. With the United Arab Emirates’ demand expected to quadruple by 2010, this region now accounts for more than half of global desalination consumption. The Middle East and North Africa Desalination Partnership (MBRTP) aims to fill a major void by offering a specialized center dedicated to the progress of this critical industry, since the Arab World is estimated to invest over $30 billion in desalination by 2025.
In addition to the oil and gas industry, the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, agritech, and material science sectors will also be represented in these clusters.
